I had the opportunity to go to Shuckers again.

First thing I heard Kirby say when we first Walked in was , “ Hi Guys”!
As she flashed her million dollar smile.
.

Hi guys !

.

.

It made me think and ask myself why do I like shuckers so much ?

Here is what I found as I thought about it.
.

.

1. The food Is very good and you get a very good portion for what you pay.

Have you ever been to one of those seafood places that has a Batter on the food that’s a mile thick and good luck on finding the real seafood ?
.

.

This is not one of those places. The food is not over salted and it is not overcooked either. I can see why people who have overcooked seafood get turned off to seafood.
.

.

2. You feel welcome and The crew Really looks after you.
I have been to restaurants where the server does everything they can to avoid eye contact so they don’t have to take care of you.
.

.

That’s one of my pet peeves. No worries , you won‘t get that here.
Let me quote Eileen the owner “ If you get bad service I want to know it”.

She has a look in her eye that you know she means it.
.

.

3. You don’t feel rushed and the place has character. It’s a one of a kind place and if you ask me and that’s a good thing.

Eileen struck me as the kind of person who would Really cares about people.
.

.

She told me that about 60% of her customers come from word of mouth And “the locals really support us”.

I don’t think you could get a better endorsement Than that.
.

.
.

( By the way this is not a paid Shuckers commercial I’m just telling you about a great place I found period. )
.

.

I asked Eileen if she watched the food Channel on Tv and she answered with a quick yes. I asked her if she ever got any ideas from watching and she said yes .

She sometimes gets Ideas and then the shuckers twist gets put on it. Eileen said she had a master cook who was Great.
I would agree from what he puts out of the kitchen.
.

.

I was lucky enough to be there when Eileen the owner was there.
It was kind of sneaky of me but I kind of ambushed her into an interview.
.

.

The lunch rush was starting to come in yet she graciously took time with me to answer my questions. She took her time and I felt no rush.
Here are the nuts and bolts of what I found .
.

.

Her name is Eileen Teston and she had a life long dream to have a restaurant.
She made her dream come true and plans to be here a long time !

she make you feel welcome.

Pirate’s Punch is the “famous” rum drink of Fernandina Beach. Hundreds of years ago, Amelia Island was the stamping ground of pirates, sea captains, and sailors and The Palace Saloon was the “ship captain’s bar.” The saloon’s 40-foot bar is a wonderful relic from the turn of the century, surrounded by mosaic tile floors, embossed tin ceilings and murals painted on the walls. The founder of Anheuser-Busch, Adolphus Busch, reportedly assisted in designing the elegant bar, lit with gas lamps.
The Palace Saloon

Green Turtle Tavern – is located right next to the Florida House Inn, and is humorously referred to by some as the ‘hippy bar.’ You can spot it by the graffiti-covered hippy volkswagon bus usually parked outside, at 14 South 3rd Street. Green Turtle has nice atmosphere for cocktails and conversation with a large bar to sit at inside, and outdoor side porch seating as well. Phone: 904-321-2324.

Karibrew Brew Pub and Grub is Amelia Island’;s only brewery and restaurant. It is connected to Cafe Karibo, and the Karibrew extends the cafe’s fine food tradition. The home brewed beer is made right on side, which ensures a fresh, crisp beer unlike anything you will find in a bottle. They also serve the popular Karibrew burger and the fried cajun soft-shell crab sandwich. Other
inventive appetizers like the crab queso dip and the spicy Thai spring rolls await.

Check out Cafe Karibrew

O’Kanes Irish Pub – Located right on Centre Street (318 Centre), you can’t miss seeing this Irish pub in Fernandina (904)261-1000.

Wicked Davey’s Fancy Saloon — being a brothel in the old days, it is one of the oldest watering holes in Fernandina. Wicked Davey’s is a bit off the main corridor — it’s a little hard to find, but worth the search. Juke box or live bands, pool table, outside deck with fireplace, located at 232 North 2nd Street (keep going north on 2nd from Centre Street). Definitely where many “locals” hangout.

Slider’s Seaside Grill – It opened in 1945 as a traditional American “Road House.” In the 70’s, the Seaside began to concentrate more on it’s restaurant business, while still maintaining some of its Inn rooms. The restaurant and lounge, which had been known by various names, including the Seaside and Breaking Horizons, adopted the Sliders name around 1980. Sliders Seaside Grill welcomed 2003 with a totally renovated, Caribbean-themed restaurant, dedicated to top quality food and service. Our dining rooms, lounge, and oceanfront patio offer unique settings for fine food and beverages.
Sliders Seaside Grill

Baxter’s – is on the south end of the island at 4919 First Coast Hwy. 904-277-4503, near Harris Teeter shopping plaza. South end islanders like to hangout here. Baxter’s has a late bar menu 10 pm to 2 am.

PLAE — Stands for “People Laughing and Eating”, is in the Amelia Island Plantation “Spa and Shops” area, and has golf course views from the outdoor deck. It is open in the evenings only, and offers an eclectic menu, PLAE is beautifully designed and furnished and is a great place to enjoy cocktails in the lounge or outside on the deck, with its impressive cocktail lounge. PLAE occasionally offers live entertainment in the lounge (904-277-2132.).

Falcon’s Nest – is named after Amelia Island Plantation’s own Jack “The Falcon” Healan, It has 7,000 square feet and fascinating memorabilia from the aviation world, Falcon’s Nest boasts one of the best happy hour in town! Stop in and check out this fun hotspot that serves as a celebration of civil and military aviation as well as a really great pub!
Falcon’s Nest

Sandy Bottoms – is at the Main Beach of Fernandina (right on the beach) and has a very casual beach bar, and an outdoor covered patio overlooking the ocean. Sandy Bottoms also offers some live musical entertainment at night. 2910 Atlantic Avenue, you can call Sandy Bottoms at (904)277-0814 for the latest operating hours and entertainment schedule (summer vs. off season).
